Affiliate Disclosure
Last updated: October 27, 2026
The short version
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and then buy or sign up for something, Past Customs may earn a commission. It costs you nothing extra. Commissions never decide what gets recommended.
Why we are telling you
The US Federal Trade Commission expects creators to disclose any material connection with the brands they mention, including affiliate relationships. Beyond the rules, you should know when someone stands to earn from a recommendation. So we tell you.
Where you will see it
Pages and guides that contain affiliate links, or cover categories where affiliate links may be added, carry a short disclosure near the top. Affiliate links themselves are labeled where they appear. This page is the full explanation.
Current affiliate relationships
At the moment, the only active affiliate link on this site is for italki, a marketplace for online language tutors. Other categories in the Professional Expat Toolkit are marked "links coming" and contain no affiliate links. This page will be updated as relationships are added or ended.
How recommendations are made
A product or service is only recommended after it has been checked properly. Nobody pays for placement on this site. If a sponsor ever pays for a segment in a video or the newsletter, it will be clearly labeled as sponsored, separately from affiliate links.
Prices and details
Prices, features, and terms of third-party products change. Always check the current details on the provider's own site before you buy. Past Customs is not responsible for third-party products, services, or websites.
